Parshas Balak

The first Radomsker Rebbe in his classic work, sefer “Tiferes Shlomoe” makes the following observation;

It says in the Pasuk (25:7) “…vayikach romach beyado” (…and he took a spear in his hand).

The word romach (spear) is the numeric equivalent to 248, corresponding to the 248 limbs in the body, which correspond to the 248 positive commandments in the Torah.

The word beyado (in his hand), has in it the letters (Yud, Vav & Dalid ) which spell out the letter Yud.

The Radomsker Rebbe explains, that when Pinchas boldly upheld the honor of HaShem by killing Zimri and Kuzbiy with a spear, since he performed this act with such Misiras Nefesh (readiness to give up his soul) he thus merited to elevate all of his 248 limbs, and 248 positive Mitzvos to Olam HaChachmah (World of Wisdom)!!

Through our studies from The Baal HaSulam we can understand what this means;

The four letters in the name of HaShem (Yud - Hey -Vav - Hey) correspond to the Ten Sefiros which are condensed into the four: Chachma, Binah, Tefferes, and Malchus.

Thus Yud corresponds to Chachmah.

The condensed Ten Sifiros in Chachmah, Binah, Tefferes, and Malchus correspond to the four Olamos (Spiritual Worlds): Atzilus, Briyah,Yitzirah, and Asiyah.

Thus Chachmah corresponds to Olam HaAtzilus.

So we see how the letter Yud corresponds to Chachmah, which in turn corresponds to Olam HaAtzilus

And according to our understanding of Avodah (service [ of HaShem] ) this is what the Radomsker Rebbe is teaching us from this Pasuk. That by performing Mitzvos with true Misiras Nefesh, meaning that when someone is even willing to give up his life to perform a Mitzvah for the sake of HaShem, he lifts his physical body from down here in Olam Hazeh (this world) at the very bottom of Olam HaAsiyah, and elevates it all the way back up to where it first originally emerged in Olam HaAtzilos. And further more, he apparently can be Mesakin (repair) and elevate all of his past positive Mitzvas threw fulfilling this one Mitzvah with such great and pure Kavanah (intension)!!

May we all get Chizuk (strength) from realizing the power of a single Mitzvah done with the proper Kevonos for the sake of HaShem, and be Zocheh (merit) to serve HaShem
with a pure heart.
